I think you may be confusing the runtime engine that makes it possible to side load Android apps on a BB10 device with the core structure of BB10 itself. The BB10 OS is not based on Android.

There is no doubt that Blackberry have taken a beating from the press and lost a number of customers. I have to disagree with your statement about incompetence though. In the UK, Blackberry still have nearly all of the top FTSE 250 companies using their services and 30-40% of them on BES10.1 whether as an MDM for multiple OS environments on Secure Workspace or as a trusted replacement for legacy Blackberry solutions. The devices are not the "be all and end all" here. They are still a huge part of the enterprise market and have a solitoon that gives IT professionals a compliant and secure end to end mobility solution that sets the standard. They don't need to reinvent themselves, they just need to get better at playing the PR game in a fickle market that would love to see them as fallen giants.

Android won't save BlackBerry. BlackBerry's name has a bad reputation. People won't even look at one, let alone care what OS it's using.
