They have already passed legislation cell phone usage in some states - albeit they allow for use of a hands-free device.

Listen, some people are bad-enough drivers without having a text-device in their hands while they're driving with one knee. How many times have you been p**sed off/cut off by someone who was holding their phone to their ear or in two hands texting?!?! The problem with some multi-media phone users is that they allow the technology to rule their lives, instead of letting it enrich their lives instead.

Yes, there should be a crackdown. Although, we're all guilty at some point.

admittingly I do email and phone while driving. I wouldn't however have an issue if there were limitations made to restrict that activity. The fact that some states are going to a hands-free only requirement is OK with me, however the phones should then ALL come with free accessories to support them. Right?

I don't think it should be illegal. I only use it to talk on the phone when driving, nothing else.

Kinda mixed on this one. I know how I should answer but I am to self centered when it comes to my Blackberry, so NO! They should not outlaw use or I guess I will just become an Outlaw!

I don't think it would be enforceable unless automanufacturers were forced to install some sort of technology that made the phone inoperable while the car is running. I do think people should use handsfree devices though. I can't tell you how many people I have watched swerve all over the road with a cup of coffee in one hand and a phone in the other. Common sense people!

Cell phone use (without a handsfree option) is already illegal in New York, and we're better for it. I admit though, I text while driving, but I try to do it only at stoplights/signs.

I believe the government may have to step in and make hands-free mandatory or cell conversations while driving. I'm tired of seeing folks with any kind of cell phone held up to their ear while driving. Not only are the concentrating on their conversation they are concentrating on keeping the phone to their ear!

PLEASE, no texting and emailing while moving! I may be in that little Smart Car in front of your Excursion.

I do it all, but should not. Some people cannot do it, and there the ones who do. So, I'd be happy if they passed a law.

Talking on a headset for most people is ok, texting and looking at the screen is not.

I know some ppl can talk and drive at the same time, but some ppl just can't. However, txting is a whole different story. Although I do it myself occasionally, I believe its very dangerous. Moreso then talking. So yes on laws making cellfone use illegal unless you hvave handsfree thingys :-P

Having admitted that I pretty much do whatever the heck I want.....

I use it for phone calls, with the City of Chicago mandated headset (or bluetooth, which is what I use), as it's illegal to use a cell without!

I use it for directions - I generally send them to myself before hand, but if I have to do it on the fly, generally type at stop lights or pull over

So - I do whatever the **** I want, but have a good amount of common sense naturally, so....

I hope that they don't pass laws to curtail phone usage/texting. When I'm on the phone or mapping or texting, I make sure to pay more attention to the road than to the phone. I have come into situations where I've had to drop the phone to react to road conditions. I realize that everyone doesn't give the road the same attention. But I'd be pretty displeased with a ticket for texting.

It's no different than any other distractions in the car. Radio, smoking, changing CDs, watching porn ( it's crazy...but people do it).

Like most things that you do wrong while driving (e.g. speeding), whether it's illegal or not, people will do it.

That being said, I wish our government would remember that it exists by the will of the people, not in and of itself.

If your using an ear peace it should be ok, but I believe everyone should concentrate on the road and not a keyboard

I would not be apposed to a law

I'm all for the laws saying that you must use a handsfree while driving. I also think that texting while driving should be dealt with. It's absolutely crazy to think you can drive safely while typing...

Yeah, I don't do it often, but I have answered an im, checked a map, checked traffic, and talked.

I do think there should be laws about using cell phones and driving. There's too many people who are very distracted while driving. Requiring hands free is a good start.

But I think that matters in urban areas. Outside that, I don't think there needs to be any.

i generally dislike the government interfering with anything in my life, but some people cannot responsibly operate a vehicle and talk on the phone simultaneously so I think that people should be fined for erratic driving or some other type of violation if they are unable to manage themselves. Cars are for driving and that is your first priority behind the wheel. Keep that in mind.

I think there should be laws against texting and email. but talking with a hands free should be legal. If people do a lot of driving they have to communicate somehow.
