I just got my first blackberry and it's great... However, as I've begun "playing" with it, the screen has dimmed a bit and was trying to find out why?

Also, I assume if I am don't touch the device it hit's a "semi-off" mode after about 20 seconds. In order to save the battery, can I have this happen quicker...

Your blackberry has an ambient light sensor which causes it to light and dim depending on the lighting of the surrounding environment.

The light sensor behavior takes some time to get used to, but its very handy. As for the timeout, check Options, Screen/Keyboard, Backlight Timeout. That should let you change it from the default 30 seconds.
