Great TED video, deRusett! Thanks for sharing. :)
You're right, RIM should try this to fix their stagnation in designing, innovating, marketing and especially managing. Too many 'Uh-Oh' moments that shouldn't have happened.
Thanks deRusett! Nice vid.
I think RIM currently does use committees to design. The problem is that they use a model tried many years ago. A large group of people collaborated on building a tower. It was to be the tallest tower ever, with the expected result of it reaching to Heaven.
Because of external influence, the people lost the ability to effectively communicate with each other and the project was a failure. The tower was located in Babel.
RIM reminds me of this because I think the various departments are unable to coordinate and that there is little to no communication from on high to those departments (design, marketing, etc)
So this video suggests RIM would have a better chance at surviving if they hired recent kindergarten grads. I can believe it.
Having them see that, is a great idea. Always wanting to see inspiration.
That's right, you're being replaced by someone from kindergarten
What's RIM's marshmallow? The one make it or break it feature?
I have no doubt they use an iterative approach to design and development.
BB10 is their marshmallow. They need to build a strong foundation to support it (ecosystem, features, hardware) or RIMs structure will fail.
Also, great TED video Stephen.
