I think a new OS 6 update came out for the 9700 not too long ago didn't it? I doubt you'll see any new functionality in one so I'm not sure what extra value downloading a new one would add.

that's why i wrote this article to see whats you guys opinion,6.0.0.723 is dropping SO SLOW for the devices now.....its like all work on OS6 is on hold to so the engineers would work on OS 7/7.1 or what other soprises RIM have for OS 7 devices.....or is it just me?

OS 5.0 is not done, it works fine on the 8330, and does a superb job Bridging the PB.

I understand what the OP is saying. I would have to say OS6 is going to be slowly fazed out just like everything is. It wont happen overnight but with time it will. Its the one downside to technology and RIM always coming up with something new. The same thing will happen with OS7 when BB10 comes out. Just when you get into a groove with your phone something comes out that will be better and take all the attention away from it.
    Just my opinion.......

Im fairly sure OS 6 is done and they have moved to OS 7/7.1/10 by now. You might see a carrier still release an OS 6 but develop is done just like OS 5 was done probably a year ago

Yes, while there may not be anymore updates or further development of OS 5.0, it's really all one needs to Bridge with the PlayBook, and it does that quite admirably.

Yes, and as the OP stated, not everyone can afford a new OS 7 phone.... so if someone is watching their budget, they might not care about all the new updates if they can grab a phone for less $$$$$!!

Given that the new (low-end) Curves RIM just announced run on OS7, I don't see a whole lot happening for OS6. It'll stick around, but updates will drop off, especially once BBX comes out.

Poor though that RIM cares that little for their customers that OS6 is most probably done in favour of OS7 which is not backwards compatable but OS6 is done while a lot of people are still in contract with OS6 phones so no option to even upgrade yet.

I'd say RIM has a history of continuing to release software, long after what would be anyone's reasonable expectations. The 9800 also runs very nicely on 706, so while I'd expect it to eventually reach 800-1000, it won't make a huge difference in performance.

Good timing, I just noticed a few OS 6.0 updates pop up over the last 24 hours, one for the 9700 and another for the 9650. It won't be surprised if one is rolled out shortly for our 9800s.

I agree they have a bit more juice in them and I am still on a contract so I'm not in a position to upgrade to new BB just yet.

Only new feature I would like to see would be a mobile hotspot on OS6 but from what I have read this won't happen unfortunately

I think it has something to do with the CPU being too slow, isn't the 9800 only have a 624MHz CPU, or something around there?

OS7 requires the updated internals that comes in all the new devices. Needs the new processor to run OS7.

CPU and memory. Regardless what people say about there being little difference, OS7 is a lot different beneath the UI.
