2. I think all the ones with "tid" are for Predictive Text, i.e. SureType. If you don't intend to use this feature (most don't even know it's there) then delete away like I did.

No, they are an all or nothing deal. Lookit, you have a 9700, 1.6mb is a drop in the
bucket. Don't stress over this.
I meant 3.6mb. Dang that's too bad. This has turned into kind of a fun project not a stressful do or die situation since I'm not running that many apps.
I also deleted the _ro files that did not were not removed as a consequence of running the batch file. I further delted the gb files and the secureIDlib file just for kicks to see what would happen. So far so good
I think it deleted some of them but I'm guessing I had to remove ~10 more. I was doing some trial and error wiping my system and java folder and it didn't remove them at any time.
Its a great batch file though - really saves time. Thanks for creating it!
Can anyone explain what happened to emarshas posts???
Is there a way someone can make a master list of things that are ok to remove? I did all the ones in this thread, including the batch file but I still see tons of things in the java folder that look unnecessary. I'm down to about 45 mb.
Thanks to the pros above and elsewhere who have helped me clean out my java folder.
The pics have the cod files sorted by largest size and show what I have left after pulling out a few extras that don't seem to do anything. I'm down to 36.2mb. Could bring this down another 3.6mb if I didn't want the ringtones.
If anyone can suggest what else I could cull that would be terrific.
Check this out everyone - I've eliminated another 3.7 MB out of the .680 OS. The large font .cod was the Asian language file so don't eliminate that if you are going to use that language.
I also tried eliminating every cod with "_en" and the device wouldn't boot. I tried this because wherever there is an _en there is corresponding file without that suffix. Anyways it didn't work just in case someone else was thinking along my confusing lines.
Just a bit of info for the next update of BBHybrids Tool, if you guys care to:
Portuguese (*_pt.cod) and Portuguese from Brazil (*_pt_BR.cod) are independent language packs. You guys could add that to the next release.
Now a question... tid files...
Which of them (besides the language packs and word lists) can be removed safely? For example, net_rim_tid_words_injector and net_rim_tid_spell_check. Are they only related to SureType or do they work for the system as a whole?

Leave them. removing them will save you very little.
The point of this is to remove the things that are truly unnecessary. There
comes a point where you will remove so much that all you are left with is
a BlackBerry branded flashlight.

Don't forget that flashlight will have a mandatory data plan.
