Exactly 100 years ago, on the 11th hour of the 11th day. The guns of the great war fell silent for the first time in 4 years. Let's take a moment of silence to remember all of the lives lost during this time.

When I was a kid, the veterans who fought in that war and WWII emphasized the phrase "Never Again." They weren't militarists, they didn't think about themselves as heroes, and they didn't glorify military service. They were everyday people who'd been forced (we had conscription in WWI) or felt obligated to serve in the wars.

I think of those men and their friends who didn't make it.
