My mom is a librarian and wants a blackberry. She's not a techy, but wants a phone she can email, text, play stupid games on, and, most importantly, read nook/amazon books on. She's on AT&T.
Thoughts on what model that won't scare her the most?
9100 for reading?
If she plans to do lots of kindle reading, she'll probably want an iphone or a android, maybe a torch. I read quite a bit on my 9650, but I'm young with good eyes my dad hates trying to read on his BB. So if ebooks is the most important feature, get her something with a big screen.
The OP stated that he wanted to buy a device that wouldn't scare her. The only 2 viable options on AT&T would be the 9100 or 9300. I say 9100 because of its set up.
I agree with Scrid. If reading books from the device is important, I'd go with an iPhone. They have huge screens, the OS is super simple to learn, plus there's loads of silly games.
If she's set on a Blackberry, I'd go with the Torch. Has a decently large screen + OS6 out of the box. It's not that intimidating of a device either.
Torch is my recommendation. I am no longer young but at least the Barnes/Noble reader allows larger fonts which are fine. OS6 and the combination of touch and keyboard make for one very fine BB experience.

As much as I like the 9100 I have to agree with SCrid and the rest who suggest the
Torch 9800. If she plans on using the device as an eReader any BlackBerry other
than the Torch 9800 is going under serve her in a big way.
It sounds like your best bet would be to go with an (hate to say it) iphone since the screen is bigger and the resolution makes everything so much easier to read. The app store support for e-books is pretty huge and I think the Torch might be an option for her as well.
