    This reflects most of T-Mobiles APN's, if you see
    "wap.voicestream.com" or "internet2.voicestream.com" and your carrier is not t-mobile, refer to the Blackberry as a Modem thread and apply your APN accordingly

    Error 502: Server could not resolve request (bad request) or Bad Gateway
    Possible causes:
    � A provisioning delay has occurred.
    � The customer is not currently subscribed to a data plan.
    � A network outage.
    In the event the device itself is able to browse successfully but error 502 appears on the customer�s web browser on the computer while using the device as a modem, proceed as follows:
    Confirm provisioning has been effective for at least 72 hours (3 days) before proceeding:
    1. Verify the presence of the correct APNs in iHLR, wap.voicestream.com and blackberry.net
    2. Temporarily add Internet 2 in iHLR.
    3. Change the initialization command to reflect Internet 2
     at+cgdcont=1,"IP","internet2.voicestream.com"
    4. Confirm the customer is now able to browse successfully.
    5. Remove the Internet 2 APN from iHLR and change the initialization command back to
     at+cgdcont=1,"IP","wap.voicestream.com"

    Error 619:
    Confirm the phone CID# matches that specified in the initialization command (+cgdcont=#).
    Standard initialization command:
    at+cgdcont=1,"IP","wap.voicestream.com"

    Error 633:
    Disable any applications that may be trying to access the mobile device (such as other phone tool software.) If necessary, complete a selective startup using System Configuration Utility . If still unresolved, follow the steps below to remove and reinstall the RIM Virtual Serial Ports. Note that phone-as-modem setup must be completed again following the un-installation / reinstallation of the Rim Virtual Serial Ports.
    1.
    Disable ActiveSync if it is running in the System Tray, and similarly exit HotSync Manager or any other synchronization software.
    � Click Control Panel > System, and then go to the Hardware tab. (In Windows Vista, go directly to Control Panel > Device Manager instead.)
    � Click Device Manager, and then Ports (COM & LPT).
    � Right-click on RIM Virtual Serial Ports and select Uninstall.
    � Complete a repair installation of the Blackberry Desktop Manager. Note that the installation CD or the original installer file may be required.
    � Repeat phone-as-modem setup, referencing CCKB296677.
    NOTE: Although usually unnecessary (as the Rim Virtual Serial Ports can be most efficiently reinstalled by completing a repair installation,) the procedure to manually reinstall the Rim Virtual Serial Ports is as follows:
    1. Go back to Control Panel and select Add/Remove Hardware and click Next.
    2. Select Add/Troubleshoot a device and click Next.
    3. Select Add a new device and click Next.
    4. Select No, I want to select the hardware from a list, and then click Next.
    5. Select Ports (COM & LPT), click Next.
    6. Select RIM Virtual Serial Ports and click Next.
    7. Click Next to start the virtual hardware installation.
    8. Click Finish once the install is complete.
    9. Close the Desktop Manager and restart.
    10. Click Start > Settings > Control Panel > Phone and Modem Options.
    11. Under the Modem tab, delete the existing modem connection between the BlackBerry and the computer.
    12. Re-create the modem connection on the computer.
    NOTE: Remember to re-open the Desktop Manager software before attempting to use the BlackBerry as a modem.
    If necessary, verify that the computer has COM ports available by completing the following steps:
    1. Click Start > Settings > Control Panel.
    2. Double-click System.
    3. On the Hardware tab, click Device Manager.
    4. Expand Ports (COM & LPT).
    5. Verify that COM ports are listed under Ports (for instance, COM1, COM2).

    Error 651:
    Please check for typographical errors in the APN, this could cause this error.
    Bypass the malfunctioning standard modem by creating a new Standard 33600 modem:
    1. Verify the com port applicable to the Rim Virtual Serial Port:
    1. Power on the device and connect it to the computer via USB.
    2. Access the device manager: Start > Control Panel > Switch to Classic View > System > Hardware tab > Device Manager. (For Windows Vista, this will be under Control Panel > Classic View > Device Manager)
    3. Select the plus (+) sign to the left of Ports (COM & LPT).
    4. Verify the presence of Rim Virtual Serial Port and make a note of the lowest com port number.
    5. Minimize Device Manager.
    2. Create a new Standard 33600 modem:
    1. Select Start > Control Panel > Phone and Modem Options.
    2. Select the Modems tab.
    3. Select the Add button.
    4. Check the box for �Don�t detect my modem; I will select it from a list�. Click Next.
    5. Specify modem type Standard 33600. Click Next.
    6. Select the com port number noted from the Device Manager in the steps above. Click Next.
    7. Select Finish.
    3. Add the initialization command:
    1. Return to Device Manager.
    2. Select the plus (+) sign to the left of Modems.
    3. Right click the original Standard Modem and select "Properties".
    4. Select the Advanced tab.
     In the event the extra initialization commands field appears gray and does not allow editing with Windows Vista, select the "Change Settings" button on the general tab, followed by Continue to proceed
    5. Highlight the initialization command, and press CTRL + C to copy the command to the clip board.
    6. Close Modem Properties.
    7. Right click the newly created Standard 33600 Modem and select "Properties".
    8. Select the Advanced tab.
    9. Place the cursor in the Extra initialization commands field, and press CTRL + V to paste the initialization command: at+cgdcont=1,"IP","wap.voicestream.com"
    10. Press OK to return to the Phone and Modem Options.
    11. Right-click the old Standard Modem and Delete.
    4. Create a new dial-up network connection (DUN,) ensuring correct modem specified:
    o Reference [CCKB296677] or [CCKB10874]

    Error 680:
    Ensure the correct modem is selected for use with the connection in DUN properties:
    � Windows XP: Start, Control Panel, Network Connections; right-click the applicable DUN and select Properties.
    � Windows Vista: Start, Control Panel, Network and Sharing Center, Manage Network Connections; right-click the applicable DUN and select Properties.
    NOTE: In the event a connection attempt is made when the correct modem is not present, the computer will default modem selection for the DUN to the next modem on the list, causing the incorrect modem to be selected for use with the connection. As the Blackberry devices utilize a virtual modem that is always present as a result of the Blackberry Desktop Manager being installed, incidences of error 680 encountered with use of a Blackberry device as a modem will likely be less frequent than those encountered with other devices (such as Motorola phones,) where the presence of the modem is dependent upon the device being connected to the computer. With these devices, the modem will not appear in Device Manager when the device is disconnected from the computer.
    In the event the failure is still encountered, confirm the �Wait for dial tone before dialing� check box in Phone and Modem Options > Modems > Properties > Modem tab > Dial Control is unchecked.
    � If still unresolved, delete and recreate the dial-up network connection (DUN.)

    Error 692:
    1. Confirm the BlackBerry Desktop Manager indicates it is connected to the device.
    2. Ensure the initialization command is entered correctly, at+cgdcont=1,"IP","wap.voicestream.com"
    3. Select the Query Modem button located on the diagnostics tab of modem properties) and confirm a failure message is not encountered.
    If Query Modem fails:
    1. Confirm the Blackberry Desktop Manager indicates it is connected to the device.
    2. Disconnect the cable from both the device and the computer, connect to a different USB port and retry.
    3. If necessary, add a Standard 33600 modem
    4. If still unresolved, follow detailing the procedure to repair corrupted Rim Virtual Serial ports. (reinstall blackberry desktop manager)
    5. Complete phone as modem setup again as applicable

    Error 718: PPP timeout
    Soft reset the device:
    � remove the battery while the device is powered on, place the battery back in and power on the device
    In some cases, this error may occur when using an incorrect init string. Ensure the correct initialization command is entered, at+cgdcont=1,"IP","wap.voicestream.com"
    NOTE: Error 718 may appear as a result of the device being on an active call at the time of the connection attempt.

    DUN Errors 720, 732, and 736:
    Reference the PPP Settings Resolution
    Windows XP:
    1. Select Start, Control Panel.
    2. Go to Network Connections.
    3. Right-click the applicable connection and select Properties.
    4. Select the Network tab, then click the Settings button.
    5. Deselect the currently selected check boxes, ensuring all check boxes are deselected.
    6. Select OK.
    NOTE: The options to uncheck are as follows:
    � Enable LCP extensions
    � Enable software compression
    � Negotiate multilink for single link connections
    Windows Vista:
    1. Select Start, Control Panel
    2. Select Network and Sharing Center.
    3. Select Manage Network Connections.
    4. Right-click the applicable connection and select Properties.
    5. Select the Options tab, then click the PPP Settings button.
    6. Deselect the currently selected check boxes, ensuring all check boxes are deselected.
    7. Select OK.
    NOTE: The options to uncheck are as follows:
    � Enable LCP extensions
    � Enable software compression
    � Negotiate multilink for single link connections

    Error 734:
    Confirm the initialization command is present on the correct modem. If still encountered:
    1. Confirm wap.voicestream.com is the APN used in the initialization command. Confirm the APN is spelled correctly.
     Confirm the initialization command reads as follows: at+cgdcont=1,"IP","wap.voicestream.com"
     Also try using epc.tmobile.com if wap.voicestream.com does not work
    2. Confirm wifi is turned off on the device (8320, 8120, 8820): � Menu � Manage Connections (Radio Tower Icon) � Uncheck "WiFi"
    3. Confirm the BlackBerry displays one or more bars of reception.
    4. Confirm the presence of the wap.voicestream.com APN in the Blackberry:
    1. From the main screen select Options (the silver adjustable wrench icon)
    2. Select Advanced Options
    3. Select TCP
    4. Confirm the APN wap.voicestream.com appears in the field.
