I am a bit at loss of words. How do u describe leap as a standalone device and sell. I just cannot get the image of Z3 out of my head when I look at Leap. Is it simply an upgrade from the Z3 and why would I want to spend my hard earned money on it when I know it is not that big a difference to my already existing device....

It's an enterprise device. Despite what people thing enterprises don't want to spend huge amounts of money on flagship devices for their employees. A cheap device allows firms to buy devices in bulk and not worry about replacing broken devices.

Target audience would be IT depts looking to provide secured units to their employees at an affordable price. BBRY is banking on their security halo to push this unit. Probably bundle with BES12 as an affordable package.

I think it might be a little too late since so many have opened up already and moved on.

But definitively not the average consumer looking to buy a standalone unit.

If I wanted a full touch device I might buy it. A likely solid device for half the price of a flagship on another platform.

I'd probably prefer a Z30, but the point is, it's a mid-range device. The people bashing it are generally just pissy because they're not getting a Z50 with bleeding edge specs for $499 released tomorrow.

So why not get a z10 or z30. Blackberry hopes people see new and get one not knowing the overpriced leaps specs are of 4 to 5 years back. My friend asked me about the leap. I told her u might as well keep ur z10 or get a z30 for 249.99. Just my opinion is all

Its quite expensive and the specs aren't too great either, you can get very good and specced devices for less. It's much more likely to be a device that is bought in bulk for a fleet deployment that goes with BES as a sweetened deal.

Really 4 to 5 year old specs? Could you please tell me what phone you could buy with those specs in 2010?

That's a drawback, if this turns out to be true. I'd love to quick-share stuff with my wife without using mobile data or opening wifi...

Still, I don't want a Z30 for her, because it would probably embarrass my dad (that daughter/father-in-law thing, you know)... mmmhhhh... :-)

Apple's stuff isn't that hot either on the hardware side (connectivity, durability, battery), but no other way to run iOS. Same here, get a 'Berry, or you won't be running BB10... :-)

(Androids are ubiquitous, and the OS is free...)

Agree, but android and apple have a strong ecosystem. Again, I'm talking for the regular Joe out there looking for an upgrade as described by the OP.

I'm pretty sure this is targeted for mass deployment where employer covers the bill.

That makes no sense what so ever. The leap is for enterprise customers , just like Mr Chen has stated all along. It is the all touch equivalent of the Classic. A reasonably good phone at an reasonably good price for enterprise customers.

Yeah, except the A7 SoC in the iPhone 5S can run neck and neck with, or outright beat, the Snapdragon 801 in benchmarks

Snapdragon 801: CPU, GPU & NAND Performance - Samsung Galaxy S 5 Review

The Snapdragon S4 Plus in the leap is a good processor, but not A7 good. Or even Snapdragon 800 or S4 Pro good.
