Anybody had success with an Alltel 8330m? I can downgrade to .127, I have no GPS right now unless I use Telenav.

Just don't want to be hacking firmware if it isn't going to work...

I have read through this entire thread and I just want some clarification. I have the 8330 with Alltel service. I have OS 4.5.0.169 currently on my phone. I will need to install DM 4.6 because I currently use 4.5. Since I know my SPC (000000) do I need to downgrade my OS to .131 or lower?

On my Alltel 8330 I had to downgrade to .127 and the GPS works great. I really don't know about the 8330m - my wife has that and she isn't too keen on me working on her phone.

Now I am wondering - if I upgrade to the 5.0 OS will I lose my GPS? I have seen this question asked many times, but I have never seen an answer...

My carrier is Cellcom (Out of Green Bay, WI) and I need the network settings for the GPSone tab. Where could I find out how to get it?

    US Cellular (Same as Alltel)
    PDE IP Address = 205.142.19.100
    PDE Port Number = 8888
    PDE Transport = IP
    Position Calculation = Mobile
    Couple things about US Cellular

    1. The above setting did not work for me. I got the following from my US Cellular Rep and I have been using my GPS on my 8330m for the last two weeks without error.

    USCellular
    PDE IP Address = 64.58.50.45
    PDE Port Number = 8889
    PDE Transport = IP
    Position Calculation = Mobile

    2. On the 8330m you have to use qpst_2.7b215 (build 215) so you can choose your phone. The newer versions don't work. I chose surf6300-BB from the list (very close to the bottom of the list) and it worked great for me.

    3. You are not going to be able to pull your access code from the first steps. Save yourself some time and energy and call your US Cellular rep and tell them what you are doing and (at least in my case) they will give you your phone unlock code.

    4. This is mentioned elsewhere, but listed it here too. The 8330m does not show the status in the gps tab, to see this go to options->status->just type "test" and a new thing will come up. click GPS then click run, scroll down to "Current State" and click it, on the menu click "start fixing"... in around 2000ms you should get the status of GPS for your phone.

Finally I have my 8330 working great.
    I used
    -Address=0x1067ed90
    -Length=1703936

I had to downgrade my operating system to .77 to get uniCDMA to read my data. It seems that most people cannot read their data with any operating system over .86. Rim must have changed something to prevent what we are trying to do.
I had a few problems with vista connecting to my blackberry using uniCMDA (it worked one day and not the next) and had better luck with XP.

Thanks for all the help. It is pretty sad that cell companies (all of them) cripple their cellphones to try to get additional revenue.

Hey House I have an 8330m MEID. Do you think these steps would work on a phone like this that doesn't have an ESN#?

I just wanted to say thanks! The fix worked flawlessly.

I used it on a Curve 8330 from alltel.
    OS - 4.5.0.169
    BDM - 5.0.1

I didn't need unicdma or hex workshop, since I already knew that all alltel/verison curves' SPC/MSL is 000000.

I have also been told that you can find the SPC/MSL on the box that your phone came in. Though it may be coincidence that mine matches. I haven't confirmed this. On the top bar code on the label, marked "MEID HEX", a fourteen digit code, drop the first digit. The next six are the SPC/MSL.

Like I said, I haven't confirmed this. My match may just be a coincidence. It's just something that I was told at the Alltel store. When I asked about the lack of GPS without telenav.

    Thanks again. Great tutorial.

I also want to say a big THANKS to HeartlessHero and HouseApe and any others that had a hand in putting this together. I, for one, felt like that dog chasing it's own tail for a long time trying this or that with nothing working. Here's my info:
    Carrier: US Cellular
    Phone: 8330m
    v 4.5.0.169

    PDE IP address 64.58.50.45
    PDE Port Number 8889
    PDE Transport IP
    Position Calculation = Mobile

After getting suggestions from USCC to try the Garmin Mobile Trial (fail), I finally spoke with a service tech tonight who happily gave me the SPC code (didn't have to hack to get it thankfully) and got a satellite fix practically when I walked out the front door. Awesome!!!

Has anyone tried this on OS 5.0? I'm on MTS with a 9530 and I have OS 5.0.0.328 and BB Maps takes a long time for a lock, and google maps will never lock. I can't figure out how to get it to work, and this looks promising but I want to know if I do this with OS5.0 is it going to screw anything up or has it been tested?

I got everything working up to the point in QPST where I read in the information from the phone. My 8230 Pearl Flip is detected as a SURF3100C-1900 and I am unable to change this. The gpsOne tab is not shown for this profile... much to my dismay. I am using QPST build 215, I also tried build 383, no luck for either. Anyone get past this?

The PDE info is not affected by the OS so yes it will work. Getting your SPC however is affected by your OS version.

Try QPST 2.7 build 301 and Surf7500-A as the base model

I have an 8330m with OS .138. I have tried the Garmin fix and it didn't work. I called US Cell and couldn't get them to give me the SPC. They did give me a number for Blackberry, and Blackberry wants to do a CLEAN INSTALL. I'm fairly new to all of this and I was wanting to know if this is safe and OK? I have quite a few apps installed, some pay, some free. Will I have to reinstall all these apps? I need to decide how badly I want GPS vs all my other apps and the hastle of reloading them.

First off – Great Website!!! Endless content!!!

I am an Alltel customer who has been assimilated by Verizon.

    8330m v4.5.0.169 , BDM v5.0.1 , QSPT 215 , Surf6300-BB , changed

port #6 to port #2 , 000000 , unchecked all of the gpsOne options , Alltel

    Network #’s

    GPS works ! ! ! ! ! !

Fingers crossed it has been almost 24 hours, 1 battery pull and 1 power off later and she still works!

I am waiting a week or so before I tell anyone in the office because there is about 12 off us that all got our 8330m about 6 months ago and everyone is pissed that there GPS wasn’t working.

With this merger going on will my Alltel settings stop working, and will I have to re-write Verizon Network settings later?

Thank You Heartless Hero and House Ape!

Just follow the PDF's that are in the first post. I tried it several times before i unchecked all of the options on the gpsOne tab. That must have been what I was doing wrong.
