I'm sure RIM amoung other companies have already thought of this but a possibly disruptive innovation our mobile devices would be built in projectors. As from seeing TAT videos they could be used for for external information on surfaces we work on and also projecting virtual keyboards or virtual inputs. Also they could make our walls in our house or any flat surface into a screen. I'd bet its not a matter of if this will happen but when. This could be really disruptive to the television market but also peripherals market. How close do people think we are to this? Anything already available?

Not entirely sure I understand your post, but are you talking about something similar to this?

LG Expo GW820: Windows Cell Phone | LG USA

It has a pico projector available to project images up to 40"

Started a couple years ago and has never really taken off.

Personally I don't see projectors as being the next "killer app" on phones. Why?

    - power consumption issues
    - size requiremenr
    - inconsistency of make-shift surfaces to project on (wall, table)
    - practical uses for most people?

There are better things to come to phones. Projectors are not one of them. Just my opionion.
