Hey I have a question, what does the "D" above the check mark on the left of a sent text message mean? Most simply have a check mark stating the message has been delivered however a couple have a D above it. thanks!

I belive it means that it was delivered. I notice if I text someone on the same network as me.

You can turn this option off if it bothers you!

And, as someone suggested, it might only work for people on the same network as you!

Yeah, it would only work on the same network. I have Tmo, if I text another Tmo phone, then they know that I sent it AND they know the person received it. If I have Tmo and my friend has Sprint, then Tmo knows they sent it out...but they have no way to know if Sprint received it and delivered it. So it would only work on the same network.
