So after leaving blackberry for an iphone i have gone back to the blackberry. Picked up at Bold 9000 2nd hand in good nick.

Rang up o2 and changed my tariff to include the blackberry bolt on etc.

Earlier today the gprs changed to GPRS, all good to go I thought so went onto BlackBerry Internet Service got the message saying the device is not registered with the wireless provider get the service books sent through etc.

So did that, through host routing got the message saying your handheld has been registered with the wireless network.

Now when i go to the site to set up the email i get told "an account already exists for this blackberry device, please log in or contact o2 uk"

So before I spend hours on the phone speaking to some monkey who has no idea what i'm talking about can anyone offer some advice?

I'm thinking maybe the pin is still registered with the previous person, it was previously on Orange I think.

But then why didn't it say that from the start instead saying its not registered then saying it is registered when i havent set up the account yet?

    Help!

Use of the word "register" is confusing the issue for you. The same word is used for two completely different functions. One is a registration on the mail servers, the other is for a wireless network connection.

You need to have the previous owner de-register the device from his Orange account by removing the PIN and IMEI from the BIS setup. (This is exactly the reverse of the process you are trying to achieve).

Do you think thats what it is then that they have not removed the pin from Orange?

    They said they had.

I think you need the help of the O2 BlackBerry support specialists. The front line tech support operators should be able to forward the call.

It is possible the de-allocation on Orange has not been circulated to all servers yet if it was very recent, but O2 BB support should be able to dig deeper and see what is hapening.

They said its not registered with any network?

Asked me to do the registration through the host routing etc which i have done, leave the battery out for a min put it back in and it should be ok.

It isn't i still get the same message when i go to the o2email.co.uk site.

They said they won't help me further as the device was not purchased from them.

Another phone call to someone a bit more helpful and we got it sorted, appears it was some kind of conflict from when i had a blackberry previously that was on o2.

Not quite sure what they did but they reset my username and password from then, got me to sign in with them and validate my email and it now works.

Excellent. The clue which might help future readers was that it was found not registered anywhere. That puts the problem somewhere in the BIS accounts.
