- Hi Everyone,
I tried to do a search on this topic that was related to my issue but I couldn't find anything. I apologize in advance if this question has already been answered - if this is the case, can someone kindly point me in the right direction?
Here's my problem - I have a 9900 (T-Mobie) and sometimes that symbol that means you can now place calls over WiFi doesn't appear. I have terrible reception in my office building and at home so WiFi is great when it works but more often than not, if my WiFi is on the symbol won't show up. I can get emails and surf on my browser but I cannot make/receive any calls. Does anyone else have this issue? I upgraded when T-Mobile released the official software update.
Thanks so much!Last edited by mkchung; 04-24-12 at 07:16 PM.
04-24-12 06:18 PMLike 0 - You should show "UMA" at the top right corner in addition to the wifi signal and the 3 dots indicating data. I can tell you that anything from the 9780 and newer, no longer transfers from wifi to 3G when you leave a wifi area. You'll now end up dropping the call.
Is this issue only happening in your office building or anywhere you try UMA calling? It's a shot in the dark but if it's only the office with a problem, they may have blocked the voice channel (just like they do with wifi on board an aircraft).04-24-12 07:01 PMLike 0 - Instead of "UMA" it displays some sort of icon (small telephone & wireless signal) but I figured that it meant UMA (minus the seamless handoff). Sometimes the icon shows up at home and at the office but it's rare.
I called T-Mobile like Fubaz suggested (**thanks, by the way! I didn't think to call them because I thought the issue was normal!). The BB specialist told me that I have an old SIM that doesn't support WiFi calling like it should. I had the spare SIM that came in the box and she said that it was still old but she updated it anyway. After I swapped the SIM, it powered on with the icon! I'm going to go to T-Mobile later and get the newest SIM that fully supports WiFi.
If you have this issue, I suggest you call T-Mobile and have the representative notate your account so you don't have to buy a new SIM.04-24-12 07:16 PMLike 0 - I have this problem frequently. Even with very strong wifi signals. True uma on my 9700 was perfect.04-24-12 10:05 PMLike 0
