Power of smaller market share

Every smartphone company wants to grab a bigger market share. It also helps to build the developed eco system.
However having a smaller share could also be great for investors.
Next year total smartphone shipments would hit 1 billion...This will have almost no effect on Samsung and Apple's stock due to thier already massive size.
However if BlackBerry was to just maintain a 3.5 percent share it means FY shipments of 35 Million and quater at 8.75...And if market share was to increase to 5 % it means 50 M units for the year and 12.5 M for the quater.This is massive compared to where they are today. It's 4 times the current quaters expectations.
Hence BlackBerry investors get a huge leg up in front of Apple and Samsung.

Well........there is more to is as a lot of competition is arising and most of the growth will be in cheap territory. The Q5 will have good chances depending on pricing, however there a lot of work to be done....
Luckily BlackBerry is well positioned in emerging markets and therefore able to dominate and extend their market share there....

I think an important thing here in what will be a crowded market is differentiation.

BB is well differentiated.

Your logic is flawed:
- Market size growth affects all players equally (not just smaller players). All else equal.
- For Blackberry market share to increase from 3.5% to 5% means it has to increase by 43%. It doesn't matter what the current market share is. It's still a growth of 43%.

BBRY can grow from 3 to 5 percent easily...Can android grow from 75 % to 120 % of the market ?
Market expectation for BBRY is 3 M units for current quarter...against a possible 12 M units for next year at 5 % market share.. can you show me similar numbers for android or apple?

I feel Blackberry has really missed a huge marketing opportunity by not catering to their current users ..... with regard to retaining them. They should make current customers a deal they cannot refuse .... like an attractive trade up to Z10. Keep your customers; do not send them to Samsung or Apple !!! It is a no-brainer. You need not lose money, but can make little to no profit while retaining market share. I do not see Blackberry doing this.
