Newbie upgrade question. My 8330 system software and my DSM software are both 4.5.X.

Does the DSM need to match the Handset software? I notice that DSM 4.7 is available. Would this still be compatible with my 4.5 handheld and would there be any advantage to upgrading the DSM?

Ummm...

Improvement maybe a stretch, as 4.7 is much slower.
Desktop manager 4.7 can do everything 4.5. I prefer 4.5.

In general, there are improvement in each successive version of BlackBerry Desktop Manager.

However, the "improvements" in v4.7 include a lot of checking for updates, both for itself and your BlackBerry. That is fine if you are content to let your carrier manage your device software. It gets in the way when you choose to do it manualy.
