I have been regularly monitoring the prices for Playbooks for a few months now and have noticed a kind of trend. At around September I had clumsily dropped my Playbook at work straight on a concrete floor, consequently spidering the screen. The device is still very much functional but a definite annoyance at times to use. Anyway, I have been keeping on eye on Amazon, watching the prices slowly drop in anticipation to grab one at the lowest price point. All through the holiday season the 32GB version (of which I am interested in) was hovering at around $180. Then at the first of the year on into the unveiling of the Z10/Q10 they hit a low of $170ish. I should have jumped on it then as today I am seeing a climb back into $199 for 32GB and $229 for the 64GB.

It's hard not to look at this as a sign of people's interest being peaked. Any other thoughts or suggestions?

i think they were on a promo price before thats why the price was so different, now theres really no need for a promo so the price is going back up. the thing is once PB10 is released the playbook will be a much better device with a much better browser and hopefully a larger app store

Promo price would definitely make sense... And thanks for bringing up PB10. Thoroughly looking forward to it. I do hope the browsers cache system gets reworked. Having to dump it almost every other browser session gets tiresome.

I don't know where you live but on Craigslist here in the Lower Mainland of British Columbia, the prices for the Playbook is roughly $150 for the 32GB and $200 for the 64GB (on its own). Some people jack up the price because they're adding in Bluetooth Keyboard or various accessories with the PlayBook.
Here: vancouver, BC electronics - by owner classifieds "Blackberry Playbook" - craigslist
I've been following the price trends as well and waiting for the 64GB to be $150 or less (wishful thinking?)

    May be a coincidence.

Even if there has been a slight rise in demand, I don't think there has been enough time since the Z10 release to create a true "pull" effect on the supply chain in order to give retailers the courage to rise the prices.

Here in the UK the 64GB has been 129 since before Xmas (PC World). Went up to 149 briefly after the New Year but now back to 129.
