I say maybe 50-150 combined. I think a lot of you guys are over estimating bbm. There are a lot of services out there that offer the same/similar experience.

I am thinking the first day and some hours will have 2+ million downloads between the two platforms and BBM will retain approximately the same number of new or return users as the week passes on. If it goes viral then 5+ million by then of day five.

lets put it this way, if I own a iphone, and use whatsapp to converse with my friends across say BB, android wp and Symbian, then why would I download BBM? id simply just be adding to my IM apps to contact those I already contact via a different app. I would still need both apps as BBM isn't truly cross platform at launch.

That is a very very real scenario for many users, myself included. if I didn't own a Z10 and I was on an iphone, im not sure I would see the benefit in that case.

Um I have a feeling that BBM will be downloaded more on iOS than Android. Most people that I know that had a BlackBerry switched to the iPhone.

I think it all depends on how well it is rolled out. If it works flawlessly, it could be HUGE! They (Blackberry) has one shot. If there are hiccups, it could turn people even further away.

It'd definitely one shot. It needs to be one hundred percent flawless. Some people have never used anything BlackBerry. BBM will be all they'll judge them by. It HAS to be perfect. Or the only thing cross platform BBM will achieve is hurting BlackBerry even more.
