My Bold will only initiate the GPS if I give it a bit of a smack. Any thoughts if this is fatal or a sign of impending doom. Since a good smack is required I suspect a it is not a software issue.
I would suggest that it is indeed a hardware failure, and to seek redress via your particular warranty/repair route.
I would be tempted to report it as an intermittent fault rather than "If I belt it, it works" as this will allow the retailer to claim it is impact damage that has caused the fault.
While percussive maintenance works in the short term, you are only likely to make the problem worse in the longer term.
