i've never downloaded a different OS before so before i try it -- can anyone tell me if there's a way to get rid of it if i don't like it, or if it messes my phone up? and how?
oh, and once i get the link - how exactly do i download it, is it simple or is there more to it?

Yes... You would just delete the 4.5 OS off your PC and then load up DM and if not automatically, you can manually start App Loader and it will let you know you are downgrading...
My Internet Bowser is gone.... it only gives me tzones or hotspot option
try using alt + back button (or whatever that curvey arrow is). Choose browser from that and then enable it in the options. That's what i did. Sounds confusing but it worked
UTUBE does not work, errors says it can't play file, like os 4.2, my syncje program data is wiped clean, synce je can't find my reg key? BBsmart does not work. Browser looks nice, video looks nice, video format video.001? What views that. Have to set reset alot of stuff up again. Not really worth the hassle, Wait for the real version to come out. Better yet wait for the 9000. I am not reverting back too much work!!!
is there any chance this will mess up my pearl 8100? because if there is i dont want it. is it really buggy or is it pretty stable? i want it but not if it is going to slow my blackberry down. will all third party software work with this? will i have any major downfalls? what are the main features included with this?
Not all third party software will work. Some have reported BBsmart to not work after switching to 4.5 as well as JiveTalk. I don't use either, so I can't verify.
I know I seem to get "uncaught error" message usually after using BB messenger after a long time.

will the im program that comes with tmobile bb still work? what about all the people that are having text messages delete themselves? is there any way to avoid it?
So, I just downloaded 4.5.18 to my BB 8310 on ATT. I tried to update my songs on guitar hero 3 mobile, and it gives me a message which says " A network connection is required to enable all of guitar hero's features. Please check your phone's network settings for this game". As far as i remember, i havent gottent his message before. I also noticed i am unable to access media net. Although i do not have a blackberry data plan, i have always been able to acess media net. Any help would be gladly appreciated!. PM for any q's or a's
I believe GH III needs the data plan. I had received that same message when I put my spare phone's sim into my berry. That sim doesn't have bb plan and has medianet.
