Can anyone shed some light on this? My wife and I did a tour of the us midway aircraft carrier over the weekend. When I emerged from the hanger (below deck) I realized that my phone was burning up and the battery was severely depleted. I've had my phone since launch and never experienced this (to this extent). Can it be because it was searching for a network?

My wife was using a non BlackBerry on the same wireless network and her phone was neither hot, nor was her battery affected.

We had to use her phone for the rest of day because my battery died.

    Anyone know what happened?

That has happened to me before. It usually happen when I leave the phone in my pocket. I feel the phone heating up in my thigh so I have to pull it out. The cure is to reset it before it depletes the battery.
I don't think it's a Z10 issue particularly, it has happened with other phones too.
Reasons why it happens I don't know, but I know it happens when you leave it in your pocket or in your purse

Thanks. I was running nothing at the time. I closed all apps, even background apps, and have no active frames. I never leave these things running due to battery concerns. I will check out other thread.

Your BB Z10 Processor may Overheats or your battery may drain rapidly if you have some high CPU intensive application installed. Either on your Ram or incorrect rom loader , most likely your pre boot up process.

Try to toggle between flight mode, Close all application, then do a battery pull. Wait for 3 minute. insert your battery(do not press power button)

    Let it charge off

If that doesn't solve your z10 from overheating, try re-installing your OS.

If that doesn't fix your issue it could simply be a faulty battery.

I travel quite a bit via automobile and have seen this happen a few times with my Z10. I travel into bad coverage areas and the phone will get warm and drain the battery pretty hard ... And then when I do return to good coverage (or back home) it all returns to normal.

So I'm guessing it is the phone searching hard for a signal. Sometimes I save the battery by putting it in airplane mode. This makes the phone cool back down and the battery drain drops to almost nothing.

Yeah airplane mode would be your best emergency maneuver ... BlackBerry however needs to fix this issue. The OS should be smart enough to know not do this in a bad cell reception area.

I had the same issue and checked Device Monitor to see what was consuming the battery (and very hot). PIM Services were over 70% and I didn't have anything running in the background as far as my Z10 would tell me. My only cure was to do a SIC Wipe and reinstall the OS. Since then, no problems.
