- I recently was sent an upgraded Blackberry Pearl due to an insurance claim. I used to have a 8100 OS 4.2, and received a 8110 OS 4.5.
My problem with the new phone... It would randomly reset itself. Most often right after passing the security test at boot up. I thought it was just my phone, but after doing some investigation, I realised that this is a very common recurrence.
After reading peoples issues I have played around and have have isolated the problem and know the fix.
Step 1. Let the blackberry reboot until you can finally gain access to your applications. I find that pushing a few buttons during the security test will sometimes stop the reset. You can also remove your Media Card and that will probably allow you to boot.
Step 2. Reformat your SD card! <-- this is where the problem exists. My theory is that data is stored on the card from older OS's is not compatible with the new OS. Only the BB gets an update, not your SD card.
2a) Go to settings
2b) Scroll down and open the "Media Card" menu
2c) Press Menu, then scroll down to format card.
WARNING... Pictures/Videos/Music stored will be gone
Your problem will be solved... I hope you found this useful.01-28-09 12:42 AMLike 0 - amazinglygracelessRetired ModThe one thing you missed is before formatting the card it is a good
idea to copy the contents to the computer. Once the format is
complete copy everything back. That way you lose nothing, or
very little.01-28-09 01:27 AMLike 0
