So I loaned my Z10 to a Co worker to try for one week lastnight. Tonight she's ready to give it back because she couldn't get it set up. She did not insert the simple card from her old 4G phone, and has no wifi in her apt. apparently. We have guest wifi at work but it's spotty at best. She is using an Incredible (3 version) from eBay at the moment.she says she will try it with the sim card tonight and see how it goes. I'm guessing I'll get the phone back soon. She couldn't get the swiping down. She's an Android user all the way except for ipad. Sigh...

If she's not even inserted a sim, and has no wifi, I suspect not a lot of effort has gone into it....

I believe that's the point of the OP.. people want to be spoon-fed about everything...

Its common sense that it would take a few days to get used to a new phone, new ways of doing things, new features, finding what it will do. I am no dunce when it comes to phones, but I certainly wouldn't judge a phone overnight....

Technology allows people to shut down their cognitive function and be lazy. I don't mean that condescending, because I have experienced it myself but it really is an increasing trend in today's world.

LOST got it right. The young lady doesn't seem to want to be bothered trying to figure the phone out. She's keeping it for another night till we work together again...we shall see.

It takes about two weeks to adjust to the BB10. Having said that,my children had no problems with the Playbook and my Z10. I have struggles with the Android OS when I use one initially but am able to adjust within minutes. She might already have negative preconceptions about BlackBerry in general. I have friends who insist that the BlackBerrys are difficult and prefer their iPhones.

First someone has to try. Second it is no more difficult than her going to android after using BBOS if that is the case.

Good thing all people don't feel this way or we would all still be using DOS. Change isn't easy but sometimes necessary.

How I dislike this behavior. It's also called convenience or even laziness, I believe. Don't even bother figuring it out yourself, just ring someone you know, he might fix it for free, set it up and configure it for you, and you don't need to lift a finger. Just play dumb (not lazy!), and someone will have pity on you, and his / her pride and inner geek will make it happen, so you can kick back and pull a lazy one.

Been there, done that. Get it so many times...

OP, just curious, how could you give your friend the phone without showing her the basics of how to operate it. And then you make this post.

I am finding that a lot of people Do Not Want to put any effort into anything. One example is a friend of mine changed from a 9900 to a 5c for 3 reasons: she has a free upgrade (although the BB works perfectly) her daughter has one and BlackBerry is going broke. I tried to tell her it was not likely and even if it was, why would she care as long as her carrier doesn't go broke.. but the real part is the perception that the 5c is so much better. This family combined do not have the ability to load BBM onto their phones, so the phones are stock out of the box, except the girl at the phone store loaded up their email info into it so that works.. nothing else.
How do I even talk about phones with people like that?

This mentality always amazes me. These days a average "smartphone" will; out of the box; do about 300 things. The vast majority of users can not be bothered to learn all the functions and use a very small subset of the features of a smartphone. Many users NEVER go to the "app store" for their phone. What many people need is a simple basic cell phone.

Even if she did have difficulty with the phone, I find this to be correct with technology with most people.

The device isn't difficult to use, my mother uses Z30 and she is in her 70's, anyone who is finding it difficult has to be not very interested in learning something new.
