If it's not branded by a carrier, it should. I suggest googling or doing a bit of research.

Not so sure about that. Check carefully.
For example, Newegg has unlocked Pearl 3Gs, Torches and Curve 3Gs in which all can run on any GSM network, but only have AT&T's 3G bands.
At the same time, Newegg also carries the Bold 9780 unlocked and can run on all GSM networks, but only receive T-Mo's 3G bands.
Now, Newegg's pictures for the phones show them with the branding on them (except for the Pearl 3G - it's not branded as AT&T has never sold the black one themselves). However, whether or not they really are branded, I don't know. Strangely, the Curve 3G they offer has T-Mobile branded on the bottom, yet it lists AT&T 3G bands. So who knows how accurate those pictures are.
What's the benefit of an unlocked phone?

You can use any carriers sim card. If you go out of the country, you use a local sim card to call back home or where ever. I use a unlocked BB in the carribean with a LIME sim card to call home. About a nickel a minute compared to 2 bucks with att.
yea... but how do i know wat 3G bands the OEM versions support? or does it support all 3G bands?
