Hi, sorry for what may be areally silly question but I'm going to ask anyway.
My 13 year old son has an O2 contract which includes only minutes and texts, no Data allowance.
He wants a Balckberry Curve for his birthday and I wanted to know what use it will be to him on his current contract.

? Will he be able to use the message manager with his friends or not as I'm a little confused ?

thanks for your help with this !

no bbm needs a data plan to run. if he gets a blackberry without a data plan it is essentially an expensive dumb phone.

if your son will not be using any of the bb functions, then I suggest him reconsider. Without a data plan or social networking, the bb curve is merely a smartphone without its smart functions.

Also to note, most providers now are requiring BlackBerry/smartphones to run on a data plan. Some providers are making this mandatory, so it is in your best interest to investigate this before purchasing.
