I see where Sikur is customizing Sony smartphones with their own " operating system ".

Could BlackBerry do the same - with LG or Samsung or even a Oneplus ?

Is a Sikur really more secure than a BlackBerry or iPhone ?

I wonder what the Open Handset Alliance's view is?

not sure what you are asking?

Yes LG/Samsung/Oneplus could ask to license BB Secure Andriod and put in on their devices if they choose.

I've never heard of this company, and I don't know what exactly they are doing. Are they buying existing phones with Android on them and reflashing them? Or are they working directly with Sony? And is their "custom OS" based on Android or something else?

Those details matter - but if they or Sony are breaking license agreements, then either or both could receive "Cease and Desist" orders at any time.

A tiny company with few assets might take that risk - a big, established company with lots to lose will not.

Here's something I found about it.

    https://www.androidpolice.com/2018/0...sony-hardware/

They aren't new, and it seems like they have partnered with Sony, but only for less than brand new devices.

    It is Android-based.

    That's all I can offer.

why would BB or a BB partner want to sell a phone w/o the Playstore. DOA concept just like the bankrupt Silent Circle Blackphone.

Apparently the Sikurphone is built under Sony's Open Source Program. This use seems to me to be the opposite of Open Source. Definitely sketchy IMO.

the process isn't sketchy just the result, Sailfish does something similar, uses the Sony program and its open libraries (Sony camera bits are proprietary and not part of this program) to build out their OS so it can be flashed on selected Sony models.
