- My 2 year contract is due to expire soon now, and I'm wondering if any new BB's are ready to roll out to AT&T? I've got the Bold 9000 and want something that'll have the new OS. AT&T STILL hasn't given us 5.0 (I know I know, I can get it from other carriers and just delete the vendor.xml). It's just a lot easier to have an update pushed to my phone rather than jumping all over the place to find an update that'll work with my phone without a problem.
So, bottom line, my contract is expiring and I'm wondering where the new BB's coming out soon will be going carrier wise AND if anyone would recommend a new carrier?Last edited by spielll; 07-11-10 at 11:49 AM. Reason: Grammar error :p
07-11-10 11:42 AMLike 0 - VZW and Sprint already have the 9650, which will be capable of 6.0 OS.
AT&T is supposed to be getting the 9800 slider, which will also be capable of 6.0 OS, but we do not know when it will be available.
If you want a new BB now, your best best would be VZW or Sprint and the 9650, depending on how VZW and Sprint coverage is for you.
Otherwise, just keep your 9000 without a contract until AT&T gets the 9800.07-11-10 11:49 AMLike 0 - VZW and Sprint already have the 9650, which will be capable of 6.0 OS.

I'm also curious how other carriers compare to AT&T as far as support and updates go. Basically who is the best carrier in the U.S. for a BlackBerry user, keeping in mind support, updates, selection, and coverage. Please vote in the poll!
I do not care if my carrier pushes a wireless update, since I usually run other carriers' official OSes, betas, or hybrids anyway.
Therefore, I really am not qualified to vote.07-11-10 11:55 AMLike 0 - I run at&t and it runs great where I live in Boise, ID. I'm running the 9700 right now and if you don't want to wait for the new phone to drop it is rumored the 9700 will get the OS 6. The latest date I heard for the 9800 slider is Nov. so that's somewhat of a wait.
After seeing the webkit video i'm definitely waiting. I have two upgrades left and using both for that phone.07-11-10 12:24 PMLike 0 - amazinglygracelessRetired ModI voted AT&T primarily because here and where I travel most I get great coverage,
never drop calls, etc...
My other consideration points in order were:
2) Customer Service - in over 10 years they have always come through
3) Device lineup - not just BlackBerry devices.
4) Convenience - we have loads of stores in this area (6 within 10 miles of my house)
As to the OS issue, that was a non factor for me. I ONLY load my carrier OS
(I use to chase every upgrade) No more.07-11-10 12:31 PMLike 0 - I run at&t and it runs great where I live in Boise, ID. Therefore, I would not recommend getting a 9700 if you want a new device with 6.0.07-11-10 12:32 PMLike 0 - I run at&t and it runs great where I live in Boise, ID. This is why they are getting ready to release a new 9700, knowned so far as the 9700a - It will have more memory.07-11-10 12:50 PMLike 0 - Asking for the best carrier for a Blackberry is only opening the door for another Them Vs Us battle.
Each carrier has pros and cons. Where I am, AT&T is great and fast - I was in NY a couple of years ago for 1 day and couldn't get online.
If you've been happy with your current carrier, keep it.
If you are unhappy, ask your neighbors, friends..etc.. People actually using the service in your area.
Whatever you do, keep in mind that most new phone come near the 3rd quarter. Since we're in July, you might want to wait a couple of months to see what's coming on what carriers so you can get a phone with OS6, designed for OS6.07-11-10 12:54 PMLike 0
