So I just switched over from an 8100 to a 8120, I used the device switching feature in the Desktop Manager to switch over all my files and stuff onto my new 8120.

Everything works fine, it's just it said I had 1 new message, but I couldn't see the message, like it just didn't show in the list. I checked under all the folders, SMS, MMS, email, etc. and it's not there at all, but it just shows as a new message. Then I tried sending myself a SMS message from another phone and it went through, it now showed 2 new messages, but the message I had just sent didn't show up either.

I have the options set to store messages OFF on the SIM card. I switched over the SIM card and the microSD card from my old 8100 to my new 8120 so I don't think that can be the issue can it.

I did a battery pull and now it seems to be working fine. I can see my new messages, but it still doesn't show those older ones, any idea why?

It's just bugging me because I can't see the message and because it's just showing a 2 new messages icon on my home screen, and I can't get rid of that either.

Check your free memory: Options / Status / File Free:

What you are describing is typical of the problems caused by low available memory. Any time "File Free" drops below 12 000 000 bytes, the phone will start deleting call logs and text messages without warning to free up memory. Text messages may be deleted as soon as they arrive, before you have had time to read them.

A battery pull recovers memory and will alleviate the problem temporarily. The solution is to remove the stuff you don't need (the sample video, wallpaper, themes, other languages, brickbreaker, etc.) from the device's memory. The following procedure, originally written by Forums Moderator Reed McLay will guide you:

    http://forums.crackberry.com/f3/how-...-memory-34633/

Also, if you have a Media Card, be sure to put pictures, videos, music, and ringtones on it, not in your device's memory. Keep in mind that Media Card memory is not device memory. You have to keep your device memory above 12 000 000 bytes, regardless of the capacity of your Media Card or how much free space it has. Finally, you can't at this time run programs from a Media Card. Programs have to be installed in and executed in device memory.

I don't have a problem with memory running out, I still have like 7000 messages saved, all call logs, etc. Because I have a memory card so I guess the phone has a lot of space to keep it.

But I fixed it sorta, I just popped my SIM back into my old phone then the message showed and then when I switched it back to my new phone it didn't show, but I just went to the menu and chose mark all prior opened so at least it won't be an invisible new message now.

    But thanks though.

the memory card has nothing to do with the phones memory. it is a media card and it stores only what is says, media. jeff is right if you have 7000 messages saved and you're not getting new ones its probably from low memory. what is your file free under options status ?
