I was really looking forward to upgrading to the new Bold 9700 from my beloved 9000, but after using it for a day, it is just too small! The new keyboard and screen feels and looks like every other smartphone out there. I just cannot get used to it because I have been so spoilt by the original Bold.

Blackberry, would you please update the 9000 and retain the current form factor. Smaller is not always better.

and me too! I also moved from a 9000 to a 9700. I like the 9700, but nothing is quite like the 9000. The 9000 is the Cadilac. Big comfortable keyboard. Fits in my hand perfectly.

I think you need to give it more than a day. Up upgraderd of necessity (my 9000 got wet one too many times) and I find the 9700 to be a great phone for a heavy texter/caller like me. You will really like the trackpad and, if nothing else, the battery life is worth the switch.

I've only had a chance to hold a dummy phone version of the 9700, and I also thought that the keyboard was too small, mostly that it seemed smushed (if that makes any sense). I think the size of the Tour keyboard is the best middle ground, not as big as the 9000, yet more proportional than the 9700. Just my opinion...
Can't complain about the screen, I like the Tour/9700/8900 screen.

Speaking only on the issue of size, I honestly hope RIM NEVER makes a phone
the size of the 9000 (yes, I had one.) The thing was, to me, just entirely
too large. I'd hate to see a trending toward "bricks" again.

I actually went into the at&t store "only" to purchase a 9700 for my wife. A week earlier, I had decided not to give it a chance because the "original" BOLD is still hot. Well, I ended up upgrading both of our lines. After my initial 9000 "size withdrawals", I actually gave the 9700 a chance and tried to make it work for me. Glad I changed my mine and no regrets.

I'm not going to ask why you didn't test out the phone, beforehand. I played with my friend's Tour, and with the 9700 in the store, before I made the move.

Stick with it...I think it'll grow on you. If not, use the 30-day grace period to return it, and get something else (or go back to the 9000).

It's gonna take more than a day or a dummy phone to get used to a new device. Give it a solid week. Like anything else, you will adjust and won't even realize it.

It's like driving a car you've never driven before. Of course it's not going to feel the same.

I had the 9000 as well...when I switched to the 9700 I felt the same way, and in a way I still do...but none the less I love my 9700 overall

I actually love both phones. They both feel the same to me, but the original Bold did feel more solid though. The keyboards both are great keyboards and both are very easy to adjust to.

I agree about the keys, sort of, they are almost too close together. However it seems that there are many people coming from a 9000 to a 9700 that complain that the new device is too small, so my question is why move to a new device why not just stick with the 9000; why is there a feeling like there is a need to "upgrade?"

I was definitely surprised at how much smaller the 9700 felt as opposed to my old 9630. Honestly though, the 9000 feels so much more, um...substantial. My dad has the 9000 and I almost bought it in white. But I went with the 9700. I have small hands so getting use to the 9700 took no time at all.

i for one love the size of the 9700, the 9000 was always too big for my liking, was happy when i got the 9700 in hand and it only took me about 1 txt message before i was used to the smaller sized keyboard

RIM does keyboards very well. It just takes a bit of an adjustment, for some people. Now that Palm Pre keyboard gives me the shakes.

Well coming from the 8320 to the 8900 and handling an 9700 it doesn't feel much different as much as size goes. The keyboard on both phones are different from the 9700 but I like them all. I've used the Bold 9000 before and LOVE the size of it. But I also don't mind the size of the 9700.

It's unfortunate that so many 9700 dislike the size. It is about the size of every other smartphone out there though. Outside of the Motorola Q, I don't remember seeing a front-facing keyboard smartphone that is/was big as the original Bold 9000. Is it that you can't type on the keyboard because the device is too small? Or is it that you don't like to use a smaller device? I also wonder what all of these people are going to do if there isn't another BB released that is as big as the original Bold? Perhaps all of you will have to go to sliders? Good luck to all of you.

That's a great point! Why are these Bold 9000 owners upgrading to the 9700 if they have issues with the size? Why not stay with your original BB? Bit there are so many smartphone users that spend their money on a device, keep it for well past 30 days, and complain incessantly about the device. Its like they want to be victimized. Why are so many consumers buying devices they don't feel comfortable using or just don't plain like?

It is something you will have to get used too using or go back to your original Bold.

The 9700 is the new size format and I do not think they will be making any phones the size of the 9000.

You need to give it a couple of days and you will adapt

I like having the choice; some stores in the UK have only just sent back their 9000 stocks.

Fifteen months ago I narrowed my device choice down on paper to the Nokia E71 and the BlackBerry Bold 9000. Then I went to the store to play with them both. The E71 is taller than the 9700, slightly narrower, but very, very thin. It's about half the thickness. The 9000 felt large enough to be an offensive weapon. Not necessarily a bad thing, of course, but a bit too large for a pocket.

In the end the E71's form factor won me over.

Then RIM release the 9700... and I'm happy. 9000 functionality, pocket friendly.

I don't find any small keyboard comfortable to use for a long period, there are just measures of discomfort. After fifteen months with the E71 (which followed a long line of QWERTY devices), the 9700 is taking a little bit of getting used to, but I have and will continue to adapt.
