So I've perused some of the threads in here. As far as I can tell, I shouldn't have to buy a "puck" to activate the GPS on my Curve. When i go to options and click on GPS, it says gps source as NONE (this is the only option).

Carrier is T-mobile and yes I have a data plan.

    Halp?

The 8520 does not have an internal GPS. The 8530 does. You will need an external GPS puck to provide a GPS signal to your 8520. For more info, see the 85xx features on the RIM site here: BlackBerry - Curve 8530 Mobile Phone - New BlackBerry 8530 Phone Features

Thanks, I looked at the link provided and all I understood that 8520 does not come with internal GPS. Can this be added? if not how can we make it GPS friendly?

You cannot add an internal GPS, but you can use an external GPS that communicates with the 8520 via Bluetooth. I used a Freedom Keychain 2000. It's available in the CrackBerry store. Any Bluetooth GPS puck should work.
