Name and Add New Folder to Media Card
- After exhaustive usage of the "Search" function I'm still seeking assistance.
Is it possible to Name & Add a new folder to my Media Card (2gb-BB Curve 8320-4.2.2.180) on the device? I want to add a folder to my card named "eBooks" in preparation of broadening my BB horizons utilizing eBooks after I download Mobipocket 6.0. I have yet to download Mobipocket (that's next!) but I'm trying to accomplish proper 'housecleaning' on my device by having this new folder in place.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I understand the Mobipocket is an 'Application' which will be aded to Device memory. What about books I subsequently download from eBooks? Will they first download to device memory (I plan on using the fully integrated eBooks version OTA on my device) THEN require my moving the book from device memory to Media card? Not sure if downloaded books can/will go to Media card OR device first.
Thanks in advance for your assistance. I am anxious to start adding eBooks to my device for "reading on the fly".09-09-08 09:27 AMLike 0 - I think you have to create new folders through desktop manager. I am not sure you can do it through the device. Someone, please correct me if I am incorrect.09-09-08 09:55 AMLike 0
- jeffhRetired ModeratorYou can create new folders using Media on the device. It's easier to do than it is to say:
Media / Menu / Explore / Media card / Menu / New Folder
I haven't used Mobipocket reader, so I can't answer your question about its file storage.
A note on exploring the Media Card: The BlackBerry OS expects to find the music, ringtones, videos, and pictures folders where it created them. You can delete them if you're not using them, but the OS will just recreate them. Renaming them won't work either. But you can create folders for your other files with no problems.09-09-08 01:24 PMLike 0 - Thanks JeffH and scorpiodsu.......
I'm just cautious as a relatively 'new' user to make any adjustments I haven't tried before. I just plan on adding another folder to 'Media' and was reluctant seeing how Media appears to be an audio/video repository ONLY.....i.e., nothing to do with 'Text' type (in my case....eBook) files. I use the basic 4 types extensively and have no intentions of manipulating them at all.....just wanted to be sure I can add a 'fifth' folder to the pre-existing basic 4. As I plan on using eBooks extensively this appears to be the 'logical' place to add a file of it's own.
I also prefer to use my BB Device 'stand alone' (versus DM, when possible) as much as I can to accomplish these types of tasks/modifications. (I have just discovered OTA and love it!....bypassing DM again wherever possible!). After all, I have my BB w/me at all times. I am rarely at my PC.
JeffH.....Your instructions, as always, are very clear! You are one of my favorite 'go to' guys in this forum. Please keep up the good work!
Thanks again!09-09-08 02:03 PMLike 0 - jeffhRetired ModeratorWhen you click on Explore / Media Card, you'll see the BlackBerry Folder. I left this folder alone. Press Menu / New Folder at this point, and you can create a folder at the same level in the tree. I created one called "Docs" and use it to store all manner of stuff. You can even view text files stored there. That's the only file type you can open on a Media Card with the native apps.09-09-08 02:19 PMLike 0
