I would rather watch the movie called
"The Rise, Fall & Rebirth of a Tech Giant: The BlackBerry Story"
This one would be filed under "Fantasy / Sci-fi" though. The movie in the OP would be a Docu-drama.

This will only become a movie/docudrama if it does turn out there has been stock price manipulation to ease the take 'under'. People love to see stuff that reinforces their idea that all rich people are crooks and cheats.

Without that, it will never get past being a good book.

The only way to get rich is to be a theif or win the lottery. That's a fact. No honest millionaires.

It should be a game instead, but it'll probably not get ported to BB10.

Coming soon ...to a theater near you
Unfortunately they would need to pause the release after a rabid leak interferes with opening day.

A movie like this would go straight to video... And videos aren't even sold anymore.

It should include the untold story of Thorsten Heins breaking up with Alicia Keys before they reunited at the BB 10 launch.
Oh HELL NAH!! Do that and someone will find a reason to dig up that damn Peaches and Herb song.

I don't see huge turnouts for a few reasons.

1: BlackBerry is not Apple. It's just the dinosaur that people used to know.

2: People like go go to movies to hear about success stories like Facebook and Apple.

BlackBerry was the first smart device for a lot of people. And BlackBerry bashing is in style. Plus the story writes itself with all the colossal missteps, excess, and infighting on their part.

It could make for a compelling story. That is, if you're taking the idea seriously.

They'd have to edit history to make everyone Americans, like they did for U-571, otherwise people will think it's a "foreign film" with subtitles and ****. Except for Heins, he's the villain so he stays German. I'd cast the guy who played Jaws in the Bond movies as TH.

Most people have heard of BlackBerry phones and know that they were once the kings. I would bet good money that most of those people have never heard of RIM, or if they did, know very little about it. And an even smaller number of people have heard of Lizardass, Baseline, Thor, or anyone else who may have been a key player. Essentially, no one cares.

Jobs is synonymous with Apple, and Bill Gates with Microsoft (and... Mark Z. with Facebook). Everyone knows this and their subsequent stories of success, as well as any infamy that may have lead to that success. BlackBerry is just BlackBerry. What was that movie about the Google interns that came out a year or so ago? You know, the comedy. That film had to be a comedy because it was the only way to tell a story about Google; Google is this gigantic entity that is a part of everyone's lives, yet, few know any real details about the company. The same would be true about a film about RIM, and judging the jokes in this thread by people who know more about the inside going-ons at RIM, it would have to be.

Canada might as well be a Socialist third-world country as far as most Americans are concerned. But hey, if it features Bob and Doug McKenzie and/or the Hanson Brothers, it might do okay in the States.
