I am starting a small business and have been doing research on mobile credit card readers in order to accept payments on the go. There are quite a few options out there including paypal here, square, intuit, etc. Just wanted to see if anybody had experience with mobile card readers and which ones might work the best with BB10?

    I appreciate any input!

I tried the Paypal Here app and Card Reader on my Classic and my Passport. The app sees that the card reader is connected, but won't seem to read a card. I'm running 10.3.1 Previous leak on both of them.

I will sign up for Square if someone can confirm it works.

Square works just fine. If it doesn't read the card reader initially, close the app, insert the card reader and then open app with the card reader already in place.

Is the Paypal card reader working for you?

I'm able to use the app and manually enter the card info & it works, just not reading a card.

I got my Square card reader today and it works on both my Classic and my Passport running 10.3.1, so I'm good to go.

This is the company I partner with. Take a look and if it make sense let me know. Square charges you 2.75%/transaction and we charge just 1.49. We have a $15/month charge but if you have a good volume of transactions you can cover that pretty quick. Again, you will need to use the android app on you're phone. Here in Canada I use a reader supplied by Monaris. The rates range from 2 % to 2.5 % depending on the card that is swiped. The app is an android app and it loads quickly and works perfectly. With all reader apps you need to make sure the volume is turned up all the way. The app is called eSelectPlus and you can get it from Snap.

Loving my Z30 and BB 10.3.1!

This is why Chen goes to Android. Perfect example. BlackBerry phone can't use something crucial to business owners through a BB10 app.

Or Chen could have asked his app software guys to write a card reader app for Bb10 instead of asking them to write android apps for Google.

A third-party app wouldn't have worked with first-party services. This is financial information we're talking about - those apps have security built in to prevent that kind of thing. You would need the actual services (Square, Intuit [Quickbooks], etc.) to develop BB10 apps, and obviously they aren't going to.

And remember that these companies have big teams of people who build their apps. There's no way that BB could have ever afforded similar teams to duplicate someone else's app. Hell, they struggled to build a decent Facebook app and there were public APIs for that! Imagine trying to do dozens, or hundreds, of other apps? I can't imagine they'd have been anything but terrible.

And that's why a well-supported, diversified ecosystem is so important.

Well, I saw this thread's title & thought there was finally a native mobile payment transaction application for BlackBerry. Then all I had to see was Android which means a Google product which means I would never never touch it because I will not knowingly use a Google product.

Admittedly, I got an iPad mini 2 for that job.
Also a way to get some exposure to the hyper-ecosystem of apps... :-D

Blend works nicely with Passport. Gotta love it...

(edit: I perceived customers are a little reluctant typing stuff into a phone, an iPad offers much more screen real estate and familiarity to my retirement age customers! )
