I have the 8110 pearl. I read that it can use the 8gb micro card. But also read something about having to buy a special device to put stuff on it. Can someone please clarify this for me

I thought that to use the 8gb card one needed to be running the 4.5 OS. I have the 4gb card and have lots of room left - and I have a ton of music on it. I have not heard of any devices, seems to me it would be a programming thing. There are lots of bright people here who will know.

Jeffh, Thank you. That was helpful but I am still confused on the issue of what device I need to buy to be able to put stuff on it. And can the pearl use the 8gb? I didn't see where he addressed that in his article. Or is it just the os that matters. I have only had my bb for 3 months, so I am pretty new to all this. Oh and where can I find out what os I am running?

Yes, the OS determines what size you can use. The info is at the bottom of Post #1 in Pete's thread. The short answer is that with one exception, you have to be running OS 4.3 or later to use all 8 GB.
You find your OS version from the home screen by Options/About. It will be the third line, and will look something like v4.2.2.176. According to Pete's table, this device could use up to a 4GB card. I actually have a 2GB, nowhere near full.
You can buy an 8GB card, you just can't use the full capacity unless your OS supports it. Actually, there's a work-around for that, too, that seems to work, but it's unsupported and you do it at your own risk.
Most microSD cards come with adapters that allow you to use them in a PC SD slot. So you can put the card in the PC and copy files to it, or you can put the card in your Pearl and copy files to it. Using Mass Storage Mode, the microSD card just looks like a USB drive.
Note: you can't run apps from the microSD card. It doesn't really expand your memory, despite what the Blackberry website says. You can store ringtones, pictures, video, and music on it. And you can copy files to it with Mass Storage Mode and use it like a USB drive.

Reason: typo
alt-left shift-h? Sorry I am really new to using a bb so I don't understand what you are saying. Which one is the left key. and which one is the shift key?
With OS 4.3 you should be able to use 8GB. You don't need anything else to load stuff onto your card. Just plug it into your BB and usb your BB to your computer, enable Mass Storage Mode when the screen comes up, and drag and drop. You can also use Windows Media Player to sync music/videos to the BB. For some reason it doesn't album pictures though.
I forgot, Pearl, Jeff's right, Options/About. Click the options icon on your home screen, then click the About option from the menu that pops up. I don't think you'll be running 4.5, though.
