is there any way to be able to send more characters in a text? It gets pretty annoying when you have to send a second text with just one word on it

Unfortunately, no. Try abbreviating more words if they don't fit, or convince your friends to get BBs and use BBM.

Yep BBM would be the way to go or simply send an email or MMS.

yeah thats one of the few things that suck. On my HTC mogul and Touch I could send more than 160 characters and it would chop them up into multiple text msgs for me.

The 160 character-per-message limit is part of the SMS Specification.

Concatenation of SMS (or long SMS as the BlackBerries are 'allowed' to send) are limited to 153 7-bit characters, each message See section of spec.

If you have 161 characters...that just means you can now add another 159 in your second one, so start thinking of more to write lol. I agree sometimes it is a PITA and I find myself deleting un-needed spaces or characters to get to 160

Lol texts are supposed to be short. I just send two consecutive ones. Yea its a bother but as long as my texts continue to be unlimited and I'm not paying .10-.20 for each one I'm happy. Texting is GOAT.

You want EMS, enhanced messaging for that. Contact Verizon like I did and maybe it will help to have it enabled for our Berries!

The other option is to e-mai lthe text to their cell phone. Most carriers have an e-mail address for each person's cell phone (usually like number@carrier). There is even a thread around here with a list of each carrier's formats.

With an e-mail message, you can send as long a message as you would like. The e-mai lwill get broken up into smaller SMS text messages automatically.

When I text with other TMO BlackBerrys we can type over 160 characters and the message with say receiving more and merge the characters into the message. Other than that, to Sprint which I text the most I just type "..." and continue on another message.
