Apparently the off contract price of the iPhone 5C is $550, which makes it no less expensive than the iPhone 4.

BlackBerry can breathe a sigh of relief.

Not sure if you're poking fun at my OP or BlackBerry 10 sales lol. At any rate, the expectation was that Apple would make a ploy to enter into the low to mid-range market. It seems they aren't prepared to do that yet. Or not equipped, like BlackBerry with BB10.

not only blackberry. samsung, LG, Nokia and many others mobile vendors will overjoyed with this announcement. not feeling threaten in mid end phone market.

it's much better for apple still continue selling the iPhone 5 and offer it with same price as iPhone 5C

i kind of feel sorry for Blackberry because apple and Blackberry have same kind business strategies selling their phone on premium price with mid end specs, but apple get away with it people still craving to buy newest iphone while it is basically almost same phone with their previous phone

but in the end with support from china mobile and ntt docomo japan i think apple will beat their previous iphone sales record

Are you guys serious??? Let's compare sales in a month. Hell, let's compare sales on launch day.

5s is an unchanged 5? New processor, new motion chip, new camera, and fingerprint ID.

You BB guys are in such denial.

I was reading somewhere on Flipboard the on contract price will start at $99. If true it's better prices that the BlackBerry 10 phones and will sell.

Sadly the 5c will sell just as well at $550 as it would at $450 or even $400. I can see it now, the Apple store workers explaining to 12 year old kids and their parents: "its more expensive then all other phones in its class, but it comes in colours...ooooooooooooohhhh."

Not too many people buy phones off contract. It's $99 on a two year, good by all low end non-iOS phones.

Was hoping for a better off-contract price for the 5C because my wife doesn't get phone subsidies with her plan and she really wanted the ability to use Facetime with family abroad. I was going to get it for her if it was $300-450, but $600 for what is effectively last year's phone is way overpriced. If I wanted a year old phone, I'd just get a Nexus 4 16GB for $250 off contract (she already has a Nexus 4). If I was going to spend $600 on a new phone, I'd take a Q10 or S4.

The iPhone 5C is really the new scarlet letter for stupidity. You know anybody carrying one doesn't know anything about smartphones. If you must have an iPhone, then spend the extra $100 and get the 5S (not that it's much to write home about).

You completely missed the point. The i5 is going out of production. It's completely replaced by the 5C, which costs less to build and uses largely the same internals (except the FFC is improved). The 5 would have dropped in price a bit, anyways, so there is nothing really surprising about the price. The 5C is actually a much better deal than the 5, since you're basically getting a 16GB i5 for $99 on contract, when otherwise you'd be getting an 8GB model using their old model.

It's been 'reported' as a cheap phone daily in these threads by all the Apple supporters defending Apple's steady drop in market share by saying once the 5c is here, that will all change...they will be competing with the cheap androids...blah blah blah. Apple completely jumped the shark today.
