I'm trying to find out a way to text/im a friend who's in germany, I have the storm and she has a non-bb at&t phone. We both have aim apps on our phone, but would those count as texts? I heard that if we set our aim to "forward to mobile" we can avoid the international charge. So basically, what is the best way to text/instant message without getting charged? Thanks.

Just use the AIM app on your phone and have her use it too. It should only use data.
