Its basically just an event log like it says. Drawbacks...not quite sure. But if you dont do battery pulls often, its good to clear this out every couple days. It will boost your memory quite a bit if your fairly active on your curve. I tend to do a battery pull once a week, and i just get in the habit of clearing out the event log right after booting up from the pull.
