    That is a terrible analogy. My Z10, Q5, and PlayBook will all continue to function regardless of what happens to BlackBerry as a corporation. The worst-case scenario is that BBM and BlackBerry World will cease to exist.
    That's a pretty bad worst case though if it happens.

    And developer update support will end far before that even happens.

    So then we're left with an app-less Internet and email device.

    Oh it is, definitely. But even if it does happen, at the very least we're looking at 6 months from now if things really go that sour. On the bright side, we could just proceed to sideload Android apps, regardless of what happens to BlackBerry World. Android Player on 10.2 is at the point where most of the apps should run very well.

    But BlackBerry's death still isn't certain, so I wouldn't start preparing for the BlackBerry-pocalypse just yet. Things don't look good for sure, but we don't know what direction things will take as they transition into a niche player, and we don't know what kind of negotiations are going on behind the scenes as far as "strategic alternatives" are concerned.

    There is small catch with sideloading Android apps: debug tokens are issued by BlackBerry.
