Even Choosing Android didn't saved BlackBerry.
By the time that decision was finally made, it was never likely to "save" BB (meaning: the hardware division). Had that decision been made in 2010 (instead of buying QNX and spending billions to develop the BB10 platform), BB might still be a sizable player in the smartphone market. But we'll never know.

The benefit is that John Chen can finally get Blackberry out of the smartphone business like he was hired to do.

Right, BlackBerry has choosed Android for Govt. And Enterprises not for consumer, a replacement for bb10.
So why did they gone to Android.
    Posted via CB10
Because Enterprise needs apps too. Lots of them. Plus many EMM solutions were not even compatible with BB10.

And that too because BlackBerry didn't paid the developers, they stopped development on BB10 so why would any developer invest in an OS which Company itself doesn't support it. The only reason they went Android was because for the 'Apps' Period.

Government and enterprise were leaving BB and choosing iOS and Android - in large numbers. The US government used to be virtually all BB, and now they're virtually all iOS and Android. This happened before BB moved to Android, BTW - it was BB10 phones that the government decided against.

How exactly do you make your competitors in the EMM space make apps for you?

Let's no start all over again. The ecosystem war was over before BB10 was even introduced.

BB tried to pay developers. There was a huge push to entice developers with money. The developers simply weren't interested and turned down the money.

And how much would you propose they should offer to make it worthwhile to the developer? There are a ton of apps that BB would like to see available on their platform, and only so much money. Windows is offering an obscene amount of money towards developers (more than BB could ever afford), and they still can't gain any traction with developers either.

The orginal dual CEOs work hard digging the grave their last few years at BlackBerry. Thor dug the grave even deeper and then jumped in. Finally when the BOD threw in the towel but found no buyers they found one person willing to take the chance in turning BlackBerry in a Software company. Since the end of 2013 this has been the stated mission of BlackBerry. The goal has always been to become an enterprise software company. The mission for hardware was to get back all the money they had invested in inventory and parts.

It's sad that this has to be repeated over and over again for people who haven't followed BlackBerry and yet think they know better.

You forgot to mention that android would have saved BlackBerry in 2010 only if there had been no other android phone manufacturers.
Android by BlackBerry would have been the same failure in 2010 as it was in 2015.

Sorry but I don't believe that at all. Blackberry still had money and personnel back then. The BB version of Android would have been something to behold with 5 years worth of maturity. Plus the brand name still had some relevance back then. Now it's a toxic brand, synonymous with failure.

And let me guess - many of those government and corporate issued phones are so locked down due to security reasons, they're nearly as useless to the user as the old BBOS phones were. I'm going to go out on a limb here and say many carrying employer issued devices have a personal device as well. Just like the old days of BBOS.

What's the iOS/Android equivalent of BlackBerry Balance?

Heh, not even close to the numbers needed.

Chen said he needed annual sales of 10M BB10 devices merely to break-even on the costs.
