It's beautiful, I love the changing visual effect when you move your phone in different angles against the light, and it feels great. Smooth and soft. BlackBerry better keep using it on the next lineup of phones, particularly the Q20 Classic.

But, I don't truly know exactly what 'glass weave' is. Is it just another name for fiberglass?

I wish the white Q10 had something similar. I have the white one too, and the plastic backing just isn't as nice, and gets creaky over time.

I honestly don't know either! Lol. I think it is dyed glass fibers weaved together and then coated in the layer of transparent soft material? (the stuff we feel when we touch it but are still able to see the weave underneath it....?) I'm not really sure, but it works!

It looks exactly like carbon fibre, and there's nothing wrong with that. Carbon fibre is actually much more expensive than glass.

Whichever fibre it is, the cloth is soaked in a clear resin (either epoxy or urethane), molded and vacuum-bagged to shape using an inner and an outer mold components, and then sanded smooth. Very similar process to carbon fibre car body parts.

galss fiber - fiber glass ..... porb simialr ingrediants but the fibre-glass of the 50' 6-'s 70's was realitivyl heavy coarse glass fibers baked was a plastic resin ... brittle ... this material is probablt the same basic ingrediants but also mmaterial much improved , fine fibers in a weave thta you want to see ans feel with a softer more flexible resin material.

Carbon fiber is many different things but starts with carbon fibers that can be shaped or woven and layered to get desired shape and directional strength. Also with a plastic resin that is all baked together. Can be as stiff and hard as you like but also can be made flexible.

could easily make a carbon fiber phone shell but $$$$, process is basically the same for both but the $$$ no so much

Not exactly. The Q10 prototype's back resembles the rubberized texture of the Z10 esp. the black one.

Just to let you know this "glass weave " material is just paint on top of plastic. It's like how motor bike helmets are made because Mr. Heins was a motorcycle fanatic when he was in charge of BlackBerry for the Q10 and Z30 (the Z10 material were already chosen before he was in charge I think) ;p
