So now have the 9650 bold. Have wifi all set up and even have the network name uptop.
I am noticing no difference in any internet speeds. Not in the browser (still crappy slow) not in fb or gmail refresh.

Is there anything anyone can tell me?

The browser is slow due to the software, not your internet speeds. Facebook is a horribly written app that is slow on any connection, and I don't know about the gmail app as I use native e-mail.

Best thing to do: get a hybrid OS to speed up your browser, don't use the Facebook app (use the mobile webpage instead), and switch to BB gmail instead of the app.

Benefits of WiFi include no data charges. For me the connection is faster and more stable overall. Maybe just my mindset.

Is the Wi-Fi icon bold or is it faint?

another reason to have Wi-fi is if your house is a "Dead zone" -- you can set your phone to pick up your home connection and always have service. I was also at a conference in a hotel, I couldn't get a cell signal in the meeting rooms, but they had wi-fi so I used that.
