Apple did not invent the GUI. They stole the idea off a prototype presented to them by Xerox, which was less interested in developing a consumer computer than finding a means to encourage consumers to print more things.
Microsoft is no more or less guilty of stealing ideas than any other company. The only reason people hate them is because they are successful.
Consider Apple, which pioneered many aspects of the smartphone GUI. When Samsung and Google steals from Apple, Apple is portrayed as the aggressor rather than the victim. Why? Because they're successful.
