I want to find out how to unlock GPS. There is a post on the curve forum how to do this and it puts you within 10 meters. I want to find out if this will work on 8830's.
I'm with a freaking redneck cellular service down here. Sucks lol but I'm having a hardtime with picking up satelites. This is why I'm curious about getting it unlocked.
If your carrier doesn't support the GPS, you are probably out of luck. Unlocking CDMA phones does not work the same way as GSM phones. Since all the CDMA carriers also sell the 8830, there is no incentive for them to allow you to use your 8830 on their network. And most won't.
What OS are you running? Have you tried on of the 4.5 OS loads? The 4.5 version do wonders and enable BBMaps to use the GPS. This is the case for VZW 8830s who currently have the GPS locked down withthe supplied OS.
4.5 and the GPS works. However, it takes forever to find satellites. A buddy of mine found a link in the curve forums called Free GPS and it picks up satellites like you wouldn't believe plus it put you within 10 meters. Check it out. That's what I want to be able to do.
