Sorry, I only saw the one misunderstood chart that shows the traditional "Quarter before the big update" lag Apple experiences once per year versus Android's best quarter. I know some thought it was a cumulative market share chart, I didn't realize you believed that as well.

"Google may give their OS away for free, but at the end of the day, they make billions off of it."

Er... explain how a copy of Android makes more money for Google than a copy of iOS. Both go out and drag eyeballs to Google.

    Is it something like this?

(Hint... Google does not make the claim you are making... they understand.)
Full year numbers will be out soon enough. It will be shocking and amazing. In the meanwhile, feel free to add the quarter 1, 2 and 3 stats up yourself for an appetizer.

Google makes money off their OS because it makes Gmail a better experience and more popular. They earn revenue off of Gmail advertising. Google makes 97% of their revenues from eyeballs on their ads.

There was this whole "Quarter 4" thing I read about... it's been a really big deal in the past I hear... I guess we'll see if it repeats as expected...

You may want to contact Google, they are not aware of the advantage to Android that you claim. If their statements are any indicator. Those fools think that Gmail on WebOS, WP7, iOS, etc., make them as much money as if it were on Android.

Such is the peril of suffering with a single CEO I guess...

Last time I checked, you did not need a gmail account to use WebOS, WP7 and iOS.

With an Android phone, the first thing you have to do when you turn it on is sign up for a Gmail account or you don't get access to Android Market.

Gmail users are growing at an astonishing rate. They now have 250 million users. Android helps fuel this growth. Eyeballs means added revenues.

Gmail integration on android is superb. One of the reasons I like android is because of Gmail. My first free email address was hotmail which was weak. I then went to Yahoo which was not much better. Gmail is fantastic.

Gmail on my iphone and blackberry does not compare to the android experience.

Link please. Yes Google makes money off of ads. Percentage of revenues is what I am disputing. They also make 'tons' of money off of data mining. Your free email isn't really free. None of Google's services are free. It goes much farther than ads. Read Gmail terms of service. Read Google Doc Terms of service. Pay attention to section 11.

If you want to be Google's product, well I guess that's your business. But I grow weary of hearing how great they are, when all they are is a wolf in sheep's clothing.

For the year ended 2010, 97% of their revenues still came from advertising:

Frack the stock holders!!!!!!!!!!!!! RIM is a viable company, with good phones, new and great, up and coming os (QNX), enough Apps to make any reasonable person happy. Poor, poor frackin stock holders, the greedy SOBS. If it wasn't for these knee ****, instant gratification **** wads!! Google can't even begin to get their new OS Ice Cream Sandwich out as planned so why not the boo hoo on them? Oh, Google is filthy rich, so we won't dump on them.

"Google hits pause button for Nexus S Android 4.0 update
    Washington Post - ‎1 hour ago‎
It seems that Google has hit the pause button on its rollout of Android 4.0 to the Nexus S that began last Friday. Details are still sparse, but many users are claiming that they're still getting update notifications over the air - the only difference"

Apparently the RIM board of directors feel that the CoCeo's of RIM have a plan of action that they agree with and are willing to see it through. That's good enough for me.

I agree it is scary how pervasive and big they are. They pretty much know everything about you. Where you like to eat, travel, what your hobbies and fetishes are, your schedule, who you are emailing, what you are saying, all categorized and cataloged by their servers. And Facebook knows what you look like and who your friends are.

Can you imagine the outcry if Uncle Sam made you put all that information on their database? There would be a revolt, yet everyone does this for free.

Like the revelations say, in the future you can't do anything without the number of the beast and that number is looking like an IP number.

I digress. Back to Googles revenues. I don't know if you use gmail, but I do and it is quite obvious the machine is reading my emails because the banner adds are for products that I am talking about in my emails. A lot of times, I click on those links. SCARY!!!!

Here are the 2010 Google sales numbers. It is brilliant how they tied advertising to a free email address and how they make the gmail experience so nice on the android phone.

Err, without the stockholders, the two co-CEOs would be driving this demolition derby on their own dimes. Much less fun when all the value you are destroying is your own.

They say T.V killed the radio star, well Apple and Android killed Blackberry. I knew it was going to happen. CEOs that have tendency to be closed minded, pompous, and out of touch, or highly philosophical in their own approach tend to destroy big brands in as little as 4 years. Look at what Donohoe is doing to eBay, he is practilcally crashing a working model with out of touch ideas and thoughts. Its just a matter of time.

Blackberry -- How RIM destroyed a great brand - CBS News

(MoneyWatch) COMMENTARY What if the co-CEOs of Research In Motion (RIMM) were given three years to destroy the company, demolish the once venerable BlackBerry brand and wipe out $70 billion in shareholder value? Here's how they'd do it:
Get caught completely by surprise when Apple (AAPL) launches the iPhone and Google (GOOG) rolls out its Android smartphone platform. Respond with disbelief and mockery. Finally develop and launch a feeble competitor, the BlackBerry Storm, nearly two years later.

Realizing you haven't even caught up to where your competitors were two years ago, begrudgingly start working on a serious competitor with a multitouch display and decent web browser, the BlackBerry Torch. Remain completely baffled by the third-party app development phenomenon.

Keep launching refreshes of your out-of-date products for a year until Apple does it to you again by introducing its breakthrough iPad tablet. Finally deliver the underperforming and underwhelming Torch three-and-a-half years after the original iPhone.

Sit back and watch Apple launch iPad 2, then scramble to rush a half-baked PlayBook tablet to market and get slammed by reviewers because it lacks a built-in cellular data connection and basic apps like email, contacts, calendar, memo pad and BlackBerry Messenger.

Send co-CEO Mike Lazaridis to a high-profile conference to demonstrate how completely clueless he is about the smartphone and tablet markets, confuse and baffle hosts Walt Mossberg and Kara Swisher, and "babble on about who knows what" for 30 minutes, according to Gizmodo.

Host an earnings call where co-CEO Jim Balsillie takes no responsibility for the company's meteoric fall (the stock plummeted 60 percent in 6 months), blaming it all on the "natural aging" of the company's smartphone portfolio and claiming the company is well-positioned in the tablet space. A month later, lay off 2,000 people, or 11 percent of your workforce.

Respond to a blistering open letter by an unnamed RIM executive fed up with your incompetence with characteristic tone-deaf defensiveness and myopic optimism.

After a four-day global outage that strands tens of millions of customers on five continents without email, messaging or browsing, offer a late but contrite apology, prompting one crisis communications executive to say RIM's crisis response is like its product design, "outdated, slow and not well-received by their customers."

As the company's stock hits an eight-year low, shedding $70 billion in shareholder value from its peak, and investors openly call for a change in leadership, announce a $485 million charge on unsold PlayBook tablets, promise that you're both going to stick around through a transition to a new operating system for the entire product line, which, by the way, won't be coming for at least a year. Offer consolation to shareholders by cutting your annual salaries to a buck.

Here's the thing. Three years ago, RIM announced that sales and profits had doubled year-over-year. Subscribers were signing up in droves and the company was poised to explode beyond its traditional corporate base into the consumer space. Since then, Balsillie and Lazaridis couldn't have done a better job of driving the company off a cliff if they'd cut their own break line and floored it.

When you look back on it, it's hard to believe it wasn't all part of a plan. Really.

And thanks to Al Lewis for the original concept in HP's One-Year Plan.
What I'd really like to know is WHY they did this ......
