Hey guys I wanted to get the idea of how much people are paying all over the world for their BB data. Be it through BIS on legacy devices or just regular data of BB10.

Here in UAE Im paying approximately $ 50 (USD) for an unlimited Data package for my Z10 (no voice calls or any other service included) This was tailored for legacy BB devices with BIS but somehow they let it through with BB10 aswell.
Other plans include $21 for 500 MB data. $27 for 1GB.
$13 for social package (BBM, Twitter, FB and Whatsapp unlimited for legacy devices only)

The pattern here in UK on monthly contract is to pay your choice of variable amount for included or billable minutes and data (megabytes) PLUS a fixed fee for BIS access regardless of how much the phone is used. I think most of the carriers have the BIS fee about 5/month (say about $7-$8).

With a BB10 device simply drop the fixed BIS fee from the calculation, minutes and gig/megabytes prices remain unchanged - but the new phones probably need more allowance of gigabytes for increased usage.

Yes I remember from a few months I spent in Toronto Canada that carriers there charged an added fee for BIS access too. I think it was around $5.. well with BB10 I find my self consuming a lot more data for two reasons.

    1. Lack of BIS ( no compression)
    2. Increased accessibility to media consumption.

BlackBerry is the only device here that gets unlimited data (including bb10 devices) so I'm safe

Legacy device here (9800). On AT&T in the US. Grandfathered unlimited BB data plan started in 2007 (with a Pearl 8100). $30 a month with BIS included. Voice and text a separate item on the bill.

I'll get to keep that plan when I eventually get the Z10.

Wow thats quite pretty sweet!! Im sure you will get to make much better use of unlimited data once you get the Z10. Also I heard about a year ago that ATT was adding a lot of conditions if you wanted to stick to the grandfathered unlimited plan. Any truth to it?

It was $30 for (grandfathered) unlimited BIS on AT&T with an additional $15 for BES. Since my firm is only going to support legacy BES for the foreseeable future, I'm saving $180 a year by leaving BB and using the Lotus Traveler app on my Note 2 to connect to enterprise email.

I switched to pre-paid a few months ago and found Simple Mobile. They lowered the BIS plan from $60 to $50/month and includes unlimited talk/text/data. The problem is that it runs off of T-mobile which is really spotty in my area and I only get edge speeds. I'm going to try to find a T-mobile branded 9900 when I have a little more cash.

I'm on a plan with Rogers that lumps 6GB of data together with my voice minutes...I get 6GB of data, 200 anytime minutes, unlimited evenings/weekends starting at 6, MY10 (unlimited anytime calling/SMS to 10 canadian numbers) for $60 CDN + taxes. Usually Rogers would have promotions where they would offer 6GB of data for $30/month, so I'm guessing that's how much it's costing with my plan.

I get screwed more on basic features like call display, voicemail and unlimited sms/mms, where I have to pay an extra $12/month for a bundle which includes those features.

Yea I remember paying for those features with Rogers back when I was in Toronto. Those features are free almost anywhere else in the world. I guess they started charging for them when the features were very new and somehow they never stopped. BTW not sure what part of Canada you are in but if you havent already you must check out Mobilicity or Wind. I later switched to a $40 plan with Mobilicity which included unlimited talk/text/data and all the other features were included. Could even make free calls to the States.

I'm in the Toronto area and I know about Mobility and Wind. Sadly, the coverage with them isn't as good as Rogers. I've heard lots of stories where if you're in the suburbs (where I am frequently), you keep switching between the home and away networks.

Forgot to mention that the 9800 I have is AT&T branded and that is why I get edge speeds.
