Hi, I'm visiting Puerto Rico in a few days from Canada and am looking for tips and tricks to minimize data usage. I run a Bold on 5.0 and regularly use the generic facebook, Gtalk and Msn messenger softwares to communicate.

I know there are some 3rd party apps that run these IM services and was wondering if any are better optimized than the classic apps (I heard about some aggregators). I'm planning on leaving my apps on all the time and don't want to end up with a huge bill.

Are there any apps that accurately measure the data usage on a blackberry ? I tried one before but it was serious junk.

Since you are on a Bold, switch Data While Roaming to Off. If you have wifi access, you should be able to use that instead.
