The unthinkable has happened today. My Curve became a brick. I am 4 hours and thirteen minutes into unbricking it. I love techy stuff, but every step of learning how to fix anything takes me forever.

If you've had this horrible experience in the past, how long did it take you to get your Berry working again?

What I have found helpful is to use this to wipe the device
    and then reload the OS.

also you should always, always make a backup first

Starting from scratch, you will need to download and install DTM, about 30 min. Download and install the device OS, another 30 min.

    Configure the OS, 1 min.

Run the command line loader with the /NOJVM flag, 2 min.

Update the device and force a fresh new build, 30 min.

I make that about 93 minutes.

Of course, if you have the software preinstalled, you can do in 30 minutes.
