Hello, I have been trying for a week to get my 8120 with a $10 generic 711 data plan to be able to use the Gmail app so I can get push email.

Can I use the Gmail app on a generic plan or with the wifi ?

I had to do some checking to find out.

The convience store chain, 7/11, offers prepaid SIM cards on the Rogers network.

That will give you voice and SMS text service, but no access to BlackBerry Internet Service (BIS).

BIS is required for Email, Messenger and most third party applications, including GMail. They will not work without BIS.

You do have a second option. Your Pearl 8120 supports Wifi. When you have a Wifi connection you will be able to use your HotSpot Browser.

The Browser can then access web based services like Google's mail client.
